This website intends to give newbies in the LaTeX world an introduction. In opposite to Word and other WYSIWYG (= what you see is what you get) editors LaTeX may seem like a closed book at first. This page aims at helping beginning LaTeX users to overcome the first few obstacles and get acquainted with one of the most widespread typesetting engines.
Since LaTeX is not very platform-specific much of the information presented here will be useful to users running other operating systems as well, such as Windows or Linux. OS X specific information will be marked by an X (like the one at the beginning of this paragraph).
Especially for Mac OS X and non-technically oriented users there is very little information on the net about how to use LaTeX efficiently. As a result LaTeX seems only inconsiderable on OS X to most users. But those users in particular should gain an insight into LaTeX on these pages. Being a linguist myself I think all students or scholars of humanities will get some hints at how to use LaTeX in their work on my pages.
In case you haven't gotten in contact with LaTeX yet you may want to take a first introductory look at "What is LaTeX?".
But not only beginners should profit from this website, also advanced users will find further information in the FAQ. Depending on your participation this FAQ will - hopefully - grow to become a vast ressource of LaTeX knowledge for all LaTeX users.
Although this website is bilingual it does not claim to present exactly the same information in both languages. Since there is very little information on this topic available in German I will focus on the German pages. Nevertheless you will find lots of information in the FAQ and on the linked pages, which are mostly in English. Due to a redesign in October 2003 the navigation of this site has changed in favor of making it XHTML compliant.
